1/21/2005 M-TEC Begins Project-Management Training
M-TEC begins project-management training Jan. 29 A nine-week program designed to build project-management skills for employees of Southwest Michigan companies begins Saturday, Jan. 29, at KVCC's Michigan Technical Education Center (M-TEC). The training opportunity for project managers is the result of a partnership between the M-TEC and Virginia Tech. The sessions conclude on March 26. “Consistent with the M-TEC model of fulfilling training needs with high-quality training solutions, Virginia Tech's Project Management Certification Program was an obvious choice,” said James DeHaven, executive director at the M-TEC. “The program fits the bill for professionals preparing for the examination required to achieve the credential of Project Management Professional (PMP®).” Virginia Tech is a registered education provider with the Project Management Institute. As such, participation in this program will fulfill the education requirements for application to take the PMP examination. The course emphasizes a thorough understanding of the core competencies required for success on the certification examination. “Businesses have made it clear that project-management training is increasingly important to their workforce,” said Cindy Buckley, training coordinator at M-TEC. “Our research led us to the partnership with Virginia Tech based on its track record for success and reputation for excellence. More than 90 percent of participants pass the examination on the first try. “A training guarantee assures those who need additional training a six-month subscription to online training and access to the program's practice test engine if a person is not successful on the examination,” Buckley said. “We are pleased to be able to offer this caliber of project-management training to professionals in Southwest Michigan.” Each Saturday session will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Registration can be done online at http://conted.vt.edu/pmc/. The course fee is $2,495 and includes all materials.
