The Michigan Technical Education Center (M-TECSM), an extension of Kalamazoo Valley Community College, was designed with input from 200 leaders in the manufacturing sector and more than 100 representatives from business, organized labor, government, education, and workforce development organizations.

The Michigan Technical Education CenterSM, an extension of Kalamazoo Valley Community College, was constructed with a $5 million dollar grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and $6 million in matching funds from area companies and foundations.

The 70,000-square-foot-facility is located at the center of The Groves. Included within the facility are interactive teleconferencing; computer laboratories: a Resource Center with self-paced learning delivered via computer, video, or printed materials; industrial training laboratories; a 124-seat amphitheater; and seminar and meeting rooms.

A clearing-house for virtually any company with a performance problem or training need, M-TECSM can help your company customize solutions. The M-TECSM staff can assess current knowledge and skill gaps; work to select the most cost-effective training and non-training solutions to close the gaps; design and deliver training and non-training solutions; and seek grant funding to support your training programs.

On-going career or job skill development seminars are held on-site in several topic categories, including manufacturing, quality, supervision, health and safety, and human resources.

In addition, as a licensed ACT Work Keys Service Center, M-TECSM can assess the current level of employees in listening, reading, writing, locating information, observation, applied mathematics, applied technology and team work skills; and provide training to upgrade these basic skills.

Room and office space hoteling rentals and business incubator space are also available.

"The M-TECSM, being at the center of The Groves, has an excellent site to serve our neighboring businesses, as well as businesses throughout the region. People can get here easily. Once here, there is ample, free parking. We have a wonderful facility and surrounding area that is conducive to learning.

The location of The Groves and its proximity to Kalamazoo Valley Community College's Texas Township campus allows for interaction and synergy between the two when joint resources are called upon to help businesses in their training needs."
